Hey everyone!
The holidays are almost upon us, which means that there’s plenty of tradition to experience — like drinking lots of egg nog (then wishing you hadn’t), and heading to malls so you can hear “Jingle Bells” played over, and over, and over again.
Well, we have some traditions here at Devolutions, too, and one of them is shining the spotlight on a great new team member every Monday. So, without further delay, please give a warm welcome to Jean-Philippe Mercier, our new Quality Assurance Specialist!
I recently had a chance to chat with Jean-Philippe and learn about his passion for hunting and destroying bugs (the software kind, not the crawling kind). Here’s a snapshot of our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for several years, and those experiences helped me become the hard worker that I am today. My academic background is quite unusual. I’ve tried a lot of things, from computer science to primary school teaching, with a stop in social science!
What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
I’d say that it was getting promoted to team leader in less than a year at my last job. It was nice seeing that my boss had so much confidence in me, even though compared to others I was still relatively new.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
I first visited Devolutions earlier this year to learn about the company, and I loved how the office was designed. The work environment seemed to be really stimulating and fun! Also, a friend of mine worked here and had very positive things to say about the experience.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I learn fast and and I adapt easily to new environments. Also, I really like to learn new things, and am not afraid to make a few mistakes if it means that I grow professionally as a result.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
To put it simply: I test our applications to find bugs, and then destroy them! I mostly use Jira to send bugs to our developers, and Test Rail to follow the test runs already established here. And, of course, I’m constantly using our suite of applications.
What are your impressions about working here?
It’s really great. The people here are very kind and easy to work with, plus they are passionate about their jobs.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
My goals are to learn more about the IT world and computer programming.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I like to read all kinds of books. I enjoy listening to music, and going to see some of my favorite bands perform live. I’m also a gamer.
