Hello everyone!

One of my favorite things in the world is dogs. Yes, you read that right: I love dogs! And just like the star of today’s new employee spotlight — our new Software Developer, Luc Lemieux — my favorite breed is Siberian Husky. When I found out that Luc has SIX Siberian Huskies, I freaked out and spent the next several minutes looking at pictures of his amazing and beautiful dogs.

I’m sure that I’ll spend much more time with Luc in the future swapping dog stories, dog pictures, and even dog jokes. For now, let’s return to the spotlight and introduce you to Luc:

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

10 years after graduating, I returned to university and graduated from École Polytechnique de Montréal. Since graduating, my career has mainly focused on management and control software in the telecommunication and broadcasting industries, and coding in C++, Java, Javascript and C#.

What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?

My biggest achievement so far would be rapidly rewriting a major code module for the NBC Network Operating Center, which was done to fix issues and make the code more testable and modular. The aspects that I had to change were related to monitoring and informing on-air TV issues, which meant that it had to be done and validated at night and ready to work the next morning. The pressure was high, but the reward of a successful deployment was well worth it.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

I was looking for a dynamic company with a relaxed atmosphere where the saying “work hard, play hard” applied. Since I always try and give 110% percent, but also to have fun with my co-workers and enjoy our time together, I believe that Devolutions is an ideal fit for my personality.

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

First, I would say that my top strength is the ability to quickly analyze and understand code. Second, I would say that my experience and training has wired my brain to solve problems, and I’m always thinking of ways to solve and optimize any problems or processes that I’m faced with. Third, my diverse background has given me a great deal of knowledge in different fields, such as various computer science and scrum methodologies, which I enjoy sharing with my colleagues.

What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?

My primary role is writing C# code for Devolutions Server, and I’m mainly using Visual Studio IDE. To write quality code, I use design patterns and unit-system tests, which ensures that features respond to requirements.

What is your impression of working here?

I love the work atmosphere here at Devolutions. There is a real openness to share ideas and opinions with colleagues, which makes you feel like part of the team. The management team clearly goes the extra mile to make the work experience positive and fun.

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

My main goal is to play a key role in evolving our product lines by adding more value, and ultimately helping our customers. I also want to share the knowledge that I’ve gathered over the years to help Devolutions improve and develop new processes, and to make our software development process more efficient and innovative.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I’m a heavy gamer, with a particular interest in the new wave of Virtual Reality. I’m the proud owner of an HTC Vive, which is the number one tech gadget to try out this year. I also like to stay fit with gym and yoga practice, and share my life with my fiancé and our six Siberian Huskies. There is never a dull day at home with six dogs in the house!

Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:

My clear purpose when developing feature is always: will it make your life easier? Also, please tell us what you need, and there is a good chance we will make it come true!
